As a professional writer about real weddings, I’ve developed a penchant for using vibrant adjectives to capture the essence of couples’ special days. But Georgie & Scott’s London wedding at Two Temple Place left me searching for words that could adequately convey its grandeur. The phrase ‘luxuriously whimsical’ might be a bit of an understatement, but it’s the only way I can describe their opulent reception without resorting to simply saying ‘wow.’

As we relaxed at Scott’s parents’ home on Lake Lanier in Gainesville, Georgia, he took the opportunity to propose. The evening prior, his request for us to wake up early to watch the sunrise had piqued my curiosity, as I’m not typically a morning person. Scott downplayed the idea, suggesting that the East Coast sunrises are breathtaking and we should experience one during our visit. Little did I know, he had been busy setting the scene for something special.

When Scott gently roused me from sleep the next morning, I was still half asleep, completely unaware of the surprise awaiting me. As I stumbled out to join him, my eyes widened in shock as I took in the serene lake view, complete with a hammock, plush cushions, and cozy blankets – all leading up to Scott’s thoughtful gesture: getting down on one knee and popping the question.

For our early summer wedding, we chose a pastel palette that brought a refreshing lightness to our heavily wooden panelled reception venue. We wanted to make a statement with flowers and create an English garden-inspired look that would be the focal point of the celebration. To bring this vision to life, we partnered with Knot & Pop, who skillfully expanded on our concept and interpreted it across the space, incorporating every detail from decor to stationery.

A banquet-style seating plan was also a must-have for us, and the flowing flower arrangements down the center of the tables were the perfect complement to our chosen setup.

For our ceremony, we opted for a timeless blend of classic music, selecting the iconic Canon in D for the processional and the renowned Mendelssohn Wedding March for the recessional. As we exchanged vows, the emotional atmosphere was perfectly set by Nothing Can Change This Love, a soulful rendition by the legendary Sam Cooke. His smooth vocals and the song’s gentle tempo created an intimate ambiance that felt truly special.

Knot and Pop wholeheartedly recommend The Curries, a talented husband-and-wife photography duo. As soon as we browsed their impressive portfolio, we knew they were the perfect choice for capturing our special day. We were particularly drawn to their ability to skillfully capture candid, unscripted moments that would become cherished memories – allowing us to treasure those authentic, in-the-moment experiences.

While formal posed group photos do have their place, The Curries wisely kept them to a minimum, ensuring our wedding album is filled with natural, heartfelt captures of the joy and love that surrounded us.

Our florist partner was Lavender Green Flowers, and we were thrilled to work with their stunning selection of romantic blooms. The mix of flowers included pale blue Hydrangeas, Nigella, and Iris, as well as lilac Scabious, soft pink and cream Peonies, English garden Roses in pale peach tones, cabbage roses, Sweet Peas in a range of colors from cream to ivory to pale pink and lilac, Bombastic spray Rosebuds, and Veronica in shades of ivory, lilac, ivory, and palest blue Delphinium.

To add texture and depth to our designs, we incorporated seasonal foliage, including the lovely scented Eucalyptus in its soft grey-green hue.

To add a touch of warmth to the pastel palette, Knot & Pop suggested incorporating copper elements. They achieved this by using copper cutlery, spray-painting table numbers with copper, and creating bespoke copper-foiled frosted votives for the tables. This warm accent complemented the soft hues perfectly.

The team also transformed the lower gallery into a members’ club atmosphere by sourcing luxurious furniture, plush rugs, and styling it with pastel-colored cushions and delicate paper flowers nestled in glass domes. To bring everything together, they collaborated with Something Kinda Cute to find a Ready-to-Go range that fit the theme, requiring only minor adjustments to color and paper to perfectly tie in.

With time constraints being a factor, having a bespoke design wasn’t feasible, but the chosen solution worked beautifully, tying in seamlessly with the overall aesthetic. The creative genius of Knot & Pop also shone through in their idea of paper flower place cards, which cleverly tied into the recurring paper flower theme throughout the tablescape.

As you prepare to tie the knot, our top tip is to infuse your special day with personal touches that reflect your unique love story. For us, it was all about those thoughtful little details that made a big impact. Take, for instance, our photo-booth props – adorable masks featuring our furry friend’s face. Or, consider incorporating meaningful elements into your decor, like the custom cookies shaped like California and Georgia (our favorite nod to Scott’s hometown).

We’ve found that these kinds of gestures can mean the world to your loved ones who’ve traveled far and wide to celebrate with you. And don’t forget – having a trusted and skilled wedding planner by your side is invaluable. Knot & Pop were instrumental in bringing our big day to life, and we couldn’t have done it without them.

After the whirlwind of our special day, we chose Sandy Lane in Barbados as the perfect haven to unwind and reconnect as a newlywed couple. It’s an absolute must-do post-wedding retreat. The serene atmosphere allows you to recharge and truly appreciate each other’s company without distraction. As I reflect on the wedding, I’m still smitten with the lush floral arrangements that added a touch of whimsy and romance.

From the delicate handmade paper creations to the wildflowers and refined bouquets, every detail was a testament to the couple’s unique style. We’re grateful to The Curries, Knot & Pop, and Georgie & Scott for entrusting us with their beautiful London wedding story. For more inspiration, explore our Real Weddings gallery.
