Best of Bridal Fashion Week: Not Your Baby Houghton F/W 2017

In our latest round-up of Bridal Fashion Week highlights, we’re shining a spotlight on Houghton NYC’s Fall/Winter 2017 collection, ‘Not Your Baby’. This bold and fierce range is more than just stunning wedding dresses – it’s a celebration of the women who wear them. Founder Katharine Polk has always been passionate about making bridal fashion as fun and creative as everyday attire, but this season she’s taken things to the next level.

At its core, ‘Not Your Baby’ is a collection that honors the struggles, talents, style, beauty, and confidence of the women who wear Houghton amidst the chic crop tops, bridal varsity jackets, sexy cutouts, seductive draping, playful colors, fur, sparkle, and texture. You’ll find an alternative bridal collection that’s just as packed with substance as it is with style.

To launch this incredible collection, Houghton created a 15-minute film featuring its diverse poster girls sharing their honest thoughts on motherhood, mental health, body image, and career pressures. We love the dose of real talk in the bridal realm – it’s something that’s often lacking.

So, we’re thrilled to be sharing not just a stunning collection of wedding dresses, but also moving the conversation about looking and feeling great on your wedding day away from just shoes and hairstyles (which both have their place too).

From the Designer

The Fall/Winter 2017 ‘Not Your Baby’ collection was a celebration of powerful, confident women who defy conventional standards to bring this vision to life, I partnered with nine remarkable Houghton Girls, each with their unique style and story. I designed looks that not only showcased my designs but also honored the individuals behind them.

The film we created tells a more personal narrative, exploring how these women navigate the pressures and unrealistic expectations that often come with being a model. Through this project, I aimed to add meaning and inspiration to my work. The film features the Houghton Girls wearing looks from the collection, as well as showcasing custom calligraphy logos and artwork by Jessica Gatlyn of Boho Ink on knit sweaters, MC jackets, and embroidered baseball jackets.

Additionally, the film highlights a limited-edition capsule collection of chokers and earrings featuring rhinestones, satin, and silver, created in collaboration with Lulu Frost.
