To create this unique messy bow, start by cutting the jeans into square sections, approximately 8×8 inches in size. Begin at the bottom of the leg using the seam as a guide. For the best results, keep the cuts consistent and equal in width to achieve that signature messy look.

QUICK TIP: Feel free to adjust the bow’s size by using larger or smaller squares of fabric.

Once you have your denim square, make small incisions across the entire end, maintaining a uniform width.

This will help create the frayed edges and textured appearance. Continue making these cuts until you’ve covered the entire section.

Rip the denim along the initial cut to reveal the frayed edge. You’ll need approximately 12-15 strips of denim for this messy bow, depending on the size you desire.

Before assembling the bow, gently remove any loose threads from the individual strips.

To assemble the bow, lay out the denim pieces in a crisscross pattern until all the strips are used.

Once complete, thread a cable zip tie underneath the bottom of the stack and pull it loosely to achieve your desired shape.

Flip the stack over, tighten the zip tie, and trim any excess material. Your unique messy bow is now ready to adorn your outfit!

When it comes to adding some extra flair to your messy bow, I’m all about incorporating small embellishments that make a big impact. A single rhinestone, for instance, can add just the right touch of sophistication to an otherwise casual look. The way the shine contrasts with the denim is absolutely striking.

You’ve got two main options when it comes to attaching this little gem: you can use a brooch or pin and place it at the center of the bow, or opt for a quick dab of hot glue if your embellishment isn’t already pinned.

To create a unique denim bow, begin by dividing your jeans into small squares. Start by making parallel cuts in the denim, spaced evenly apart to achieve the desired width of your bow. Continue cutting across the entire end of each square, then simply rip the denim along the cut line. For my project, I used around 12-15 strips of lace, but feel free to adjust the number based on the size you desire.

Once you’ve prepared all the denim pieces, carefully remove any loose threads and lay them out in a criss-cross pattern within a circular shape until all the pieces are used up. Next, thread a zip tie underneath the bottom layer of denim and pull it snugly tight to secure everything in place. Trim any excess zip tie material before moving on to the final step: adding a rhinestone embellishment for added flair.
