Starting the week off right with a celebration of love. Imagine a whimsical urban chic wedding set against the unique backdrop of Chicago’s Salvage One, where creativity knows no bounds. Matt and Kim’s special day was a masterclass in DIY charm, from the intricately wood-burned table numbers to the vibrant fabric bouquets and bouts that added pops of color throughout.
A unifying thread woven throughout their celebration was teal, a thoughtful nod to Ovarian Cancer awareness in honor of Kim’s mother – what a beautiful tribute. The talented team at Two Birds Photography were on hand to capture every joyful moment, as Matt and Kim’s love shone bright against the city skyline.
The Refreshments
As the evening unfolded, we indulged in a culinary experience that left everyone in awe: a mashed potato bar that quickly became the talk of the night. To quench our thirst, we set up a full bar featuring an epic battle of signature cocktails, pitting Moscow Mules against Dark and Stormys. In the end, it was the latter that reigned supreme, but the sweet treats didn’t stop there.
A dessert buffet read like a who’s who of family and friends featured an impressive red velvet wedding cake courtesy of my Aunt, as well as a stunning surprise three-tiered Spiderman groom’s cake crafted by Matt’s mother, sister, and cousin – a true masterpiece.
The Wedding Music
As the big day approached, the soundtrack for our special moments took center stage. My brother and father joined me as we strolled down the aisle to Queen’s iconic ‘Somebody to Love,’ while my bridal party made their entrance to The Shins’ catchy ‘New Slang.’ Later, we transitioned into Matt & Kim’s upbeat ‘Daylight’ during the recessional, and then shared a romantic first dance to Arctic Monkeys’ emotive ‘Baby, I’m Yours.’
The Photography
The moment I landed on Two Birds Photography’s website, I was sold The distinctive visual aesthetic Jake and Jennifer brought to the table was unmistakable – a harmonious blend of color and composition that stood out from every other photographer we considered. What truly impressed me, however, was their ability to let their subjects’ personalities and the day unfold naturally, without imposing any artificial constraints on the narrative.
Working with them was an absolute breeze, and the final product – stunningly beautiful photographs that captured the essence of our special moment – only further solidified my confidence in their exceptional skills.
Final Musings
The celebration was elevated by the creative touches we brought, including scrumptious appetizers like macaroni and cheese bites. The one-of-a-kind venue added to the event’s charm, as did our impressive dance moves. We’re grateful to Kim and Matt for allowing us to share in their special day, and to Two Birds Photography for capturing it so beautifully.
