Our Love Story
As I prepared to move out of my Santa Monica Spanish colonial-style apartment building, I decided to host an open house while my landlord was away in Maine for most of the summer. The day of the showing arrived on May 11th, 2013, and I was joined by a friend, Caroline, who kept me company as we welcomed potential buyers into the apartment. To help ease any nerves, mimosas were definitely in order.
As we showed Wally, who had recently relocated to LA from Chicago, around the space, our initial focus remained on the property’s features. However, as the open house progressed, our conversations naturally shifted to more personal topics, including his background and interests. Caroline even invited him to join us for a mimosa, which helped break the ice. By the end of the showing, Wally had become more than just a potential buyer – he was part of the group.
We extended an invitation to him to join us for lunch with our girlfriends, which he gladly accepted and handled like a pro. The camaraderie continued into the afternoon, with Caroline’s husband, who worked for the Dodgers, inviting all three of us to a game the next day. It wasn’t until we were driving home later that Wally and I really started to connect.
The Venue
As we cruised by our upcoming tour stop, Malibu Rocky Oaks, Wally suddenly burst out laughing from the passenger seat. By the time I followed his gaze, the striking structure had vanished behind a ridge of hills. When it reappeared on the horizon, its unique charm was undeniable. The venue we were viewing that day couldn’t hold our attention; all we could think about was experiencing Malibu Rocky Oaks for ourselves.
Favourite Moments
One of the most treasured memories we’ve shared is our reveal moment, which took place with Nick and Maria from Studio 1208. The experience was nothing short of extraordinary, with photographs that perfectly capture the intensity, beauty, and emotion of the occasion. Our ceremony was a heartfelt celebration, filled with warmth and laughter, making it an intimate and relaxed affair. We had always envisioned two long tables, inspired by iconic images of John F.
Kennedy’s wedding to Jacqueline Kennedy, which we were thrilled to see come to life. The dance party that followed was nothing short of epic, with plenty of sidesplitting moments to cherish.
The Music
The soundtrack to your special day is carefully curated with attention to detail and a focus on creating an atmosphere that complements the emotions of the occasion. For this couple, that means blending modern indie vibes with timeless classics. The ceremony processional features the iconic ‘500 Miles’ by Processional Wally, setting the tone for a heartfelt and intimate celebration. As the newlyweds exchange vows, the warm and uplifting sounds of ‘Angels’ by Sunny create a sense of euphoria.
Following the ‘I dos’, the recessional gets underway with the feel-good nostalgia of ‘You Make My Dreams’ by Hall & Oates, leaving all who are present beaming with joy. As the newlyweds take to the dance floor for their first dance as husband and wife, they sway to the soulful rhythms of ‘You Are the Best Thing’ by Ray Lamontagne, a poignant reminder that this love story is only just beginning.

Advice for Other Couples
As a couple, you’re inevitably forced to make compromises with your respective families, but despite the inevitable challenges and family dynamics that come with planning a wedding, my partner and I remained resolute in our commitment to one another. We were intentional about being open and honest throughout every moment of the day, from the procession to the toast – moments that, let’s be real, can often be complicated by family issues or personal sensitivities.
Rather than getting caught up in drama, we prioritized respect for each other and the significance of our special day.
